Old Joe's Fancy is a lighthearted theme and variations for saxophone quartet and wind ensemble based on the Blue Ridge Mountain fiddle tune "Old Joe Clark."
The wind ensemble parts were written with a fairly good middle school ensemble in mind. It should be easily performable by almost any high school wind ensemble. The solo saxophone parts are more difficult but playable by high school level musicians after some practice.
The work was commissioned by the Baltimore Saxophone Quartet, who wanted to tour, performing the work with a variety of high school ensembles throughout Maryland, so I wrote a work that could be performed by ensembles of various levels of accomplishment.
This work has not yet been recorded professionally.
