This four movement work was written for the Blue Ridge Chamber Orchestra, a local amateur string orchestra in which I play bass. The symphony is in a style that I have been working in for many years, modal/tonal/pandiatonic. The composition was written with non-professionals in mind, and, in fact, the top three string parts could all be performed in first position. The first chair players sometimes play as a quartet or solo, and a little more is expected of them.
